Covid-19 and Diabetes

COVID-19 caused by the novel coronavirus and it is a highly infectious disease. It spreads through contact with someone who has the virus. Older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions may have a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. These conditions include asthma, heart problems, diabetes, obesity, and chronic kidney disease. Specifically, the available evidence suggests that individuals with type 2 diabetes have a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19

It can be harder to treat due to fluctuations in blood glucose levels and, possibly, the presence of diabetes complications, and people with type 1 or gestational diabetes may also have an increased risk, but the data is less conclusive.

Firstly, the immune system is compromised, In general, infections are more serious in people with diabetes. One reason is that diabetes affects the way the immune system works, making it harder for the body to fight viruses. Secondly, the virus may thrive in an environment of elevated blood glucose levels.
